Welcome! Whether you are new to roleplaying as a whole or want help getting started on this site then this thread is here for you! Below is a step by step guide on how to create a character and join this world! Should you have any questions or find anything difficult and in need of help please PM a member of staff and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
1) Create an account
The very first thing to do is to create an account. To do this all you simply have to do is scroll to the top of the page and look for the bit that says, "Welcome Guest. Please Login or Register." This can usually be found on the right hand side of the page above the banner. If you already have an account simply log in, to register for an account click "Register".
When registering: Proboards will then take you to a screen and ask you for an email address. Fill that in and follow the steps. The next screen is information about YOU, this will include giving a name, birthday and gender. Fill that in, the next step will requite coming up with a username, this is for YOUR CHARACTER. The username is what differentiates your characters and can be anything you wish. It is not set in stone and is not what is displayed on the site (so don't worry too much! Something like Characterone is perfectly ok!)
2) Read the rules and other information threads.
To make sure the site runs smoothly we do have a few basic rules, all you need to do is read through them. Should you not understand anything simply ask! Staff will always be happy to help with any questions. Everything you need can be found in the Getting Started board!
3) Write your application
Simply go to the New character Applications board (here). This is where you will put your application for staff to look over. Found in the board is a template for you to copy and paste into a new thread. To do this click on the blue button near the bottom of the top banner that says 'create thread'. Write the full name of your character in the subject bar and then simply paste the template and fill in all the information! If you are wondering whether you have done it correctly or not we have filled one of our own in to show you! (it can be found here). When you are all happy with what you have come up with simply hit the create thread button just underneath the main text box!
From there its a waiting game unfortunately. Your application has been submitted and is waiting for a member of staff to check over and approve. Should a member or staff find a problem with your application then they will reply to the thread with the given reason and may ask for you to make some changes. On the other hand should it be accepted you will receive a reply with the word "accepted", your character will be added to its correct group and you will then be ready to begin!
4) Go to the profile section and fill in
Next comes things such as creating a profile picture and filling in any details you haven't done before such as changing your username to the name of your character! To do this scroll to the top of the page. Along the top will be a button called "Profile", click it. This is your profile page! On the page is a button which says "edit profile", click on that as well. It will take you to where you can change your icon (which Is your profile picture), the picture needs to be one of the celebrity you claimed as the face of your character!.
Next is clicking the "personal" button. This part is what you will change to represent your character. Change the display name to your characters name, the gender to your characters, age to your characters... etc...
At the bottom is the section "Played by", this is where you write YOUR name (or whatever name you want the site to know you by).
Once happy, save changes!
5) Go to the welcome board and write a welcome post.
So that everyones knows who is who we have a welcome board (here). This is just where you can briefly write a bit about yourself and introduce yourself. THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY, ALSO PLEASE DO NOT SHARE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION. This is simply optional and doesn't need to be filled in if you do not wish to do so. Examples can be found in the board.
6) Start posting
Your account is now all ready to go! You are free to post at your own will.
A few handy tips:
-If you are from London though remember you cant turn up in berlin every other day or vice versa, make it believable etc... so maybe stay there for the week on a mission or visiting the institute...
- Don't walk straight into the lions den so to speak. A new shadowhunter walking into the middle of a coven alone unfortunately doesn't stand good odds... would you do that? Play it cleverly!
